SiS
has announced that its subsidiary has developped two controlers
designed for SSDs, the LVT820 and 815. SATA II standard, they can
address MLC or SLC Flash NAND chips, on 8 channels for the 820 version and 4 for the 815.
One good point is that they support external DRAM memory designed to serve as cache memory during writing, something that is currently missing from entry level SSDs. The first LVT820 and 815 sample models are already available and they should be on sale widely by June. More controlers is a good thing as it should mean a fall in the price of the various SSD solutions.
